A hungry man made a desperate plea to his DoorDash driver via the delivery app after getting trapped behind the gates to his storage unit – but he didn’t quite receive the response he was hoping for

A food delivery driver has shared the bizarre note a customer attached to their order after finding themselves in a sticky situation. The DoorDash driver, who works in America, explained how the customer made a desperate plea for help in the section usually reserved for their ‘delivery preference’.

Unfortunately for the hungry customer, he’d got himself trapped inside the gates of his storage unit – and needed a ladder to safely climb out. Selecting the ‘hand it to me’ delivery option, his accompanying note read: “Hello! This will sound insane, and absolutely no hard feelings if you decline this request… I am currently locked inside the gates of my storage unit.

“I haven’t eaten dinner, so getting food is priority number one. But, if you have access to a ladder and want to bring it to me along with my order (in order to climb out of the fence and Uber home), I’d throw you $20 cash! Again, feel free to decline this order and/or just bring the food. No worries either way. Thank you.”

However, without access to a ladder, the driver wasn’t able to save him from the site – and instead just handed the food over through a small gap in the fence and wished him luck. He said on Reddit: “There was a gap between the top of the fence and the barbed wire, I passed the food through there.

“It was 1.15am. He said the adrenaline from the whole situation was wearing off and he was crashing pretty hard so he was going to nap in his car until either help arrived or the gate code worked again at 5:00am. I asked him if he could let me know when he got out, but I never heard back.”

While most users questioned why he phoned DoorDash rather than the police, others shared how they’d want a larger tip if they were going to load a ladder onto their car to rescue him. One user said: “Make it $100. I’ll bring the ladder and drive you home.”

Another user added: “This does happen. I used to be a 911 dispatcher and it became this entire ordeal to get the lady out as her storage unit management was useless.” A third user said: “I’m just really confused as to why the person didn’t just call the cops or any number provided there to get out. then you could get out, get your food yourself, and sleep in your bed. Just kinda weird.”
