May Bank holiday is upon us but if you’re wondering when supermarkets such as Aldi, Lidl, TESCO, Sainsbury’s and Co-op are open then this is your go-to guide. Today (May 6) marks the early May bank holiday which means there is a long weekend for people across the UK.
As is the case with many bank holidays across the UK, supermarkets have slightly altered opening times. As many know in London the smaller convenience stores such as Saisnbury’s Local and TESCO Express have different opening and closing times to their larger counterpart stores – but if you’re heading out to the shops today it’s a good idea to check opening times before embarking on your journey with bag for life in hand.
MyLondon has compiled a list of the opening and closing times of each supermarket this bank holiday, according to their website. Find out more below.

Aldi
According to its website, its bank holiday opening hours are 8am until 8pm. But times could change depending on which site you go to, so use the store locator to avoid disaster.
Tesco
With thousands of outlets scattered across the UK, Tesco has no fixed opening and closing times for its shops. Some will be open from 8am until 6pm, while others will be open from 7am until 11pm. Use its store locator tool to find your local’s trading times today.
Lidl
Again, opening hours different depending on the store. Some are open from 7am until 10pm, others 8am until 10pm. The store locator tool will do away with the possibility of any misunderstanding.
Sainsbury’s
Superstores tend to be open from 8am until 8pm, with smaller locations having varying opening times. Sainsbury’s store locator will have your local store’s opening hours.
Co-Op
There’s no set times for Co-Ops opening and closing times. Many stores however – albeit not all of them – are open until 11pm, while some 10pm and others midnight. Use Co-Ops store locator to find out opening hours for your local store.
