The fast-food chain has launched new menu items in time for warmer weather this summer – but fans are completely divided about whether they will be running to try them or not
McDonald’s has announced four new cool treats are available on its UK menu – but some aren’t so impressed.
While the weather has been glum and rainy in the UK as of late, the fast-food brand are looking ahead to warmer times with their new range of cool treats. In May it was announced that a new Skittles flavour McFlurry was joining the menu as well as two new ice beverages, and the return of the popular iced coffee. If that wasn’t enough, UK customers can now get their hands on McDonald’s ice lollies and tubs of ice cream.
The chain company, with more than 1,450 restaurants across the UK and Ireland, has launched ‘Scoop’ ice creams in chocolate and strawberry flavours. The tubs will be similar to a McFlurry but without the famous toppings, and the ice cream is vegan-friendly. A spokesperson for McDonald’s described the new menu items as “a deliciously smooth and creamy vegan frozen dessert”
The ice cream has been approved by The Vegetarian Society, although McDonald’s warns that it may not be suitable for those with milk allergies due to being made in a facility that handles dairy. The ice cream costs £1.59 a tub and will be available in a number of locations in the north west of England.
Also joining the menu, and suitable for vegans, is the McDonald’s McFreezy ice lollies – available in some UK stores in flavours mango and pineapple, as well as orange. The treats are priced at £1.59 and will be trialled until September 3.
After pictures of the new items were shared on New Foods UK on Instagram, fans had a lot to say. Speaking about the ice lollies, one excited individual said: “McDonald’s just upped their hangover game.” “Wow,” added another. “Orange one, I want one,” added another.
“Perfect for us,” commented another. But some were as impressed as one pointed out: “£1.59? Bit steap. Should be 99p.” One other added: “£1.59 for that? No thanks!”
And some seemed even less impressed with the ice creams. One individual wrote: “Who asked for this? They miss the mark every time.” Another added: “The vegan part completely ruined it.” While a third chimed in: “They’ll taste like s*** then.”
But some seemed excited about the new menu item as one said, “these look good”. One other pointed out: “Some of us appreciate vegan stuff. It’s nice to have an alternative.”
“Excited to try both of them,” added another. “They should keep them on the menu,” commented another.
