Fast food giant McDonald’s has launched an anime-themed spin on one of it’s most iconic deals. But, you’ll have to act quickly as the new offering is only available for a limited time

McDonald’s is shaking things up once again – and we’re (ba da ba ba baa) lovin’ it.

Last month, the fast food chain announced the triumphant return of some golden oldies as it released its spring menu. The cult favourite Galaxy Caramel Pie (which won The Mirror’s taste test) is officially back, alongside the Galaxy McFlurry, Chicken Big Mac, and the highly-anticipated Biscoff McFlurry. However, McDonald’s giveth and McDonald’s taketh away – and customers were left devastated after discovering the iconic Haloumi Fries have been pulled once again.

But now, McDonald’s has shaken up its legendary Happy Meal – and any Japanese anime fans will be over the moon.

On May 8, McDonald’s debuted its first-ever anime-themed Happy Meal after teaming up with Yu-Gi-Oh! and Hello Kitty and Friends. Each Happy Meal will come with one of ten different Yu-Gi-Oh! X Hello Kitty and Friends plush toys, or two Little People Big Dreams books.

Characters include Hello Kitty x Dark Magician, Keroppi x Kuriboh and Pompompurin x Exodia The Forbidden One. However, you’ll have to act quickly – as this offer is only available until June 18.

Priced at around £3.49, a Happy Meal contains a choice of Fish Fingers, Chicken McNuggets, or Veggie Dippers – and comes with a Pineapple stick, or apple and grape bag, as well as a drink. Plus, diners will be able to scan the QR code on their Happy Meal box to create a ‘digital version of their very own toy and see it come to life in an awesome animated kawaii story’.

“In a year of celebrations with not one but three anniversaries (Hello Kitty and McDonald’s UK celebrate their 50th anniversaries whilst Yu-Gi-Oh! has its 25th Card Game anniversary), what better way to mark the occasion than with an exciting anime takeover,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said. “Never before have these two anime worlds collided so, whether it’s your first experience with either franchise or you’re an avid fan, don’t miss the exclusive opportunity to enjoy this anime special with Happy Meal.”
