Blackpool Sands beach in South Devon has been named the cleanest beach in Europe, according to a new survey, with the likes of Fistral Beach and Luskentyre also making the list

A UK beach that’d look at home in the Mediterranean has been named the country’s cleanest.

South Devon’s picturesque beach, Blackpool Sands, has bagged the title of the nation’s cleanest beach. Not only that, but it stood out as Europe’s cleanest beach according to reviewers on Tripadvisor.

Fastestpayoutonlinecasino.com crawled reviews for keywords including clean, spotless, perfect and pristine while also using Tripadvisor to select the top 15 beaches with a minimum of 500 reviews on-site. Countries such as Cyprus, Greece, Portugal and Spain featured amongst the top 15 cleanest beaches revealed by the survey.

Despite its misleading name, as the beach is not actually based in the iconic North West seaside town and isn’t even made of sand, Blackpool Sands beach emerged victorious as Europe’s cleanest beach on Tripadvisor. Securing an overall score of 26.02%, one in four reviewers mentioned how clean and tidy the Devon beach is.

Previously, Conde Nast Traveller had given Blackpool Sands the honour of being the UK’s best beach. Of 54 contenders, the travel magazine ranked it as number one, praising it as a “wonderful surprise”.

The magazine compared the scenic drive through pine trees to Italy’s famous Amalfi Coast. It also highlighted the adjacent sea for its “astonishingly clear” waters, attributing it to the pebbly nature of the Blackpool Sands’ spectacular stretch of beach.

The Blackpool Sands Cafe, Lounge and Restaurant offers a beachfront dining experience with a menu that includes locally sourced crab and hearty breakfasts. Patrons can also enjoy a variety of drinks, from roasted coffee to cocktails, as well as ales and options for children.

The accolade comes as many UK beaches struggle with litter, with the Marine Conservation Society’s annual beach clean seeing half a million bits of rubbish removed from beaches across the UK in 2023. That was a significant rise on the year before.

Iconic seaside resorts like those in Skegness have been badly hit by litter this year, with one local said they were “disgusted” by the state of the sandy stretch, Lincolnshire Live reported.

When it comes to Europe’s cleanest beaches, the UK is making waves with five out of the top fifteen spots. Blackpool Sands takes the crown with a cleanliness score of 26.02%, based on the delight of 301 out of 1,157 reviewers.

Fistral Beach in Newquay isn’t far behind, claiming second place with a 21.3% cleanliness score. Out of 4,516 reviews, 962 highlight its pristine condition. West Shore Beach in Llandudno, Wales, grabs the eighth position with a 13.18% score for cleanliness, as 97 out of 736 reviewers specifically mention its tidiness.

A spokesperson for fastestpayoutonlinecasino.com praised England’s beaches and said: “It’s a credit to England to be able to occupy the top two spots. Having three entries demonstrates that tourists’ perspectives about England aren’t always right. Even more so when considering the weather is often not summer-friendly at this time of year, the beaches remain clean and tidy.”
