Prince Harry’s drug confession in his memoir ‘Spare’ could have major consequences for him as a US think tank is suing the government over his immigration records – but one country could provide a safe haven for the couple
Prince Harry’s bombshell autobiography ‘Spare’ has not only sent shockwaves through the Royal Family with its explosive revelations but now, it seems, it could also spell legal trouble for the Duke. The book’s candid confessions about his past use of cocaine, marijuana, and magic mushrooms have raised eyebrows over whether Harry disclosed this information on his US visa application upon moving stateside.
The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank in Washington, is taking legal action to pry open Prince Harry’s immigration files, arguing that the case hinges on “whether the government provides special treatment for high profile celebrities.” They’re zeroing in on the documents Prince Harry would have completed when he touched down in the US on 14 March, 2020, as typically, entrants to America are grilled on their history with recreational drugs.

The unfolding drama could be a source of fresh concern for the Duke, as former BBC Royal correspondent Jennie Bond conveyed to OK! magazine: “Harry must regret having been so frank about drugs in his book. It really wasn’t a necessary part of the narrative although I understand that he was trying to explain his mental health issues.”
Jennie further commented: “But admissions like that can have consequences and, right now, he must be feeling the heat. I think he’s fine as long as the Biden administration continues to back him. But things could be very different if Trump became president again.”
“In the end, though, I can’t imagine that the USA would actually throw him out. Lawyers would find some way around it, I think. But it must be an unnecessary worry and embarrassment for Harry at the moment.”
Looking ahead at the worst case scenario, expulsion from the country, Jennie did however offer a glimmer of hope as she suggested a neighbouring country may be willing to take the couple in, as she added: “I suppose if the worst came to the worst, they would have to find somewhere else to live but I doubt that it would be the UK. Perhaps Canada would look kindly on them. But I don’t think it will come to that.”
The comments follow Royal commentator Duncan Larcombe’s suggestion that Meghan is overshadowing her husband – a situation that suits Harry’s preference to play “second fiddle”. Speaking to OK! he said: “Meghan is a very strong character, very driven, extremely ambitious, and those are the kind of characteristics that mean she will almost always inevitably outshine Harry and grab the attention from him.”
“Harry is entirely in her shadow. But he’s never really been at ease with the attention, he’s never really enjoyed it. Whether it’s deliberate or not, Meghan is definitely a magnet for attention.”
“Although we saw a huge amount of money spent on her combined outfits for Nigeria so maybe it’s not a complete accident that she steals the limelight. Their Nigeria trip was ‘The Meghan Show’ and Harry was the side.”
