Prince Archie is being raised away from the public eye in Montecito, alongside his younger sister Lilibet. But his parents have given an insight into his upbringing in the States
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s son might live his life out of the spotlight, but his parents have opened up about his upbringing – including their priority when it comes to parenting.
Archie Harrison – who will celebrate his fifth birthday next month – lives at home in Montecito with the couple and his younger sister, Lilibet, who will be three in June.
During an interview with The Cut in 2022, proud mum Meghan spoke about her young son – and revealed how the couple are trying to raise a little gentleman.
She said, “We always tell him: ‘Manners make the man. Manners, manners, manners, manners, manners.'” The Duchess also showed herself to be a hands-on parent as she recalled a recent birthday party the pair had attended.
Admitting that ‘everyone was surprised they had shown up’, Meghan recalled: “I was in a bouncy castle, and I saw this 1-year-old inside. I was like, ‘Where’s your mom?’ And this mom on the outside goes, ‘Oh, hi! I’m here. I wasn’t sure if I should come in.’ I was like, ‘Do you need your child? Of course you can come in.'”
It comes as a royal expert has claimed that Meghan has concerns that her two children could grow up to “blame her” if they are “deprived” of the chance to be working royals in the UK.
Meghan, who stepped back from royal duties with Prince Harry in 2020 and relocated to Montecito, is reportedly still reeling about her experience during her time as part of the Royal Family in Britain.
But the former Suits star’s distance from the UK and the Royal Family has led to her worries that her children might grow to resent her for their lack of relationship with their paternal grandparents and cousins, according to a royal expert.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, royal author Tom Quinn claimed: “On the other hand, we should always remember that phrase – ‘never say never,’ because it will come back to haunt you when you change your mind, especially if you are a public figure like Meghan.
“A friend of the couple – one of Meghan’s few aristocratic friends from her time in the UK – told me Meghan does miss some aspects of life in the UK and worries that her children will blame her if they never get to see their cousins and feel as adults that they have been deprived of what might have been a fun and meaningful existence in the UK as working royals.”
However, Mr Quinn added: “It will be a long time before Meghan reappears in the UK. She has already publicly stated that she will not return to the UK, and her friends insist she is still furious at the way she feels she was treated during her time in Britain.”
