Meghan Markle has paid tribute to veterans “who served, sacrificed and continued to serve” in a social media post on Remembrance Day.

The Duchess of Sussex shared on Instagram a memorable moment from Prince Harry’s second deployment in Afghanistan. The 2013 clip shows Harry stopping a TV interview mid-sentence and darting off to his helicopter as a military alert blares.

In another slide, Meghan posted a photo from Harry’s visit to Sunnybrook Hospital’s Veterans centre in Toronto last week, where both he and a fellow veteran are seen wearing poppies.

The post was captioned: “‘As my husband says, ‘Once served. Always serving.’ Thank you to all who served, sacrificed, and continued to serve. Honoring you on Veterans Days. And every day.”

It comes after Meghan faced backlash for not wearing a poppy to Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday party, which she and Harry attended on Saturday. Harry, however, wore a poppy pinned to his tuxedo.

This morning, the Princess of Wales led the nation in a two-minute silence at 11am to remember those who died in conflict. Kate attended the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to mark Armistice Day, laying a wreath for the first time and meeting veterans and families of serving military personnel.

Kate walked to the Armed Forces Memorial for the service – the first she has attended at the Arboretum – which she called a “special” and “powerful” place for “personal reflection”. The crowd stood as she arrived to take her seat for the service, which featured a reading of a specially commissioned poem by the Arboretum’s poet-in- residence, Arji Manuelpillai.
