Meghan Markle has revealed that her children copy their father Prince Harry’s British accent when pronouncing particular words, despite growing up in California.

The 44-year-old former actress, who lives in Montecito with Harry, 40, and their children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, disclosed this charming detail during the second series of her Netflix programme With Love, Meghan, which launched on August 26.

During the show, Meghan observed: “Some of the words that they still say with a British accent. So they’ll say, ‘Ze-bra,’ and what else do they say? They have these little moments where it comes out. They have very American accents, but they say words that are just like him, and I think it’s adorable. Zebra is a good one.”

The remark echoes comments she made earlier this year on The Drew Barrymore Show, reports the Mirror US. When Drew asked about which traits in her children reminded her of Harry, Meghan replied, “Oh, some of the words that they still say with a British accent. So they’ll say, ‘Ze-bra’ … I think it’s adorable.”

In her Netflix programme, Meghan also spoke about differences in her own pronunciation compared to Harry’s. She shared: “My husband always laughs when I say ‘herbs’ – he’s like, ‘Herbs.’ He’s like, ‘You’re so American – ‘Erbs, ‘erbs.'”

Meghan and Harry departed from Royal duties in 2020 and relocated to California, ultimately establishing themselves in the Santa Barbara neighbourhood of Montecito. Their daughter Lilibet was born there in 2021.

In a conversation with People magazine, Meghan said: “Once you know us, I think you want us to have the same normalcy as parents and for our children as they do, despite however unique our situation.” She described their family routine that involves trips around their neighbourhood.

Meghan continued: “We go to a lot of dinners, and not just in people’s homes or private rooms; we just go into the restaurant. I really love that we can just have fun.”

The second series of With Love, Meghan, an eight-episode programme, showcases guest spots from Chrissy Teigen, Tan France, Jay Shetty, Radhi Devlukia, José Andrés, Clare Smyth, David Chan and Samin Nosrat, alongside Meghan’s friends Jamie Kern Lima, Heather Dorak and Daniel Martin.

Earlier this month, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed the continuation of their creative collaboration with Netflix via a multi-year first-look agreement for film and television.
