Meghan Markle is well-known for starring as Rachel Zane in the popular legal drama Suits, but she had to take a number of other jobs before landing the part

Meghan Markle’s life changed when she landed the role of Rachel Zane in Suits, but one expert has claimed she “struggled to the top”.

The Duchess of Sussex gained a legion of loyal fans for her work in the hit legal drama, but it wasn’t actually her first TV role. Meghan had previously worked as briefcase model on Deal or No Deal and had a small cameo in the US soap General Hospital.

It took 10 years for Meghan’s acting career to truly take off and royal commentator Michael Cole believes it wouldn’t have been easy for her to climb to the top in Hollywood. He suggested she would have experienced “none of the civility” people often take for granted as she started her career.

During an appearance on GB News, he explained how British people can be overly polite, unlike in other cultures. Michael said: “That is absolutely accentuated in Hollywood where people are given orders, particularly if you’re the sixth person on the call sheet in a show called Suits.

“There’s none of the civility, none of the politeness, none of the things that we take for granted in this country or certainly used to. When you have to struggle to the top in Hollywood, you can bet your life you’ve had to tread on a few fingers on the way there.”

Meghan stepped down from Suits in 2017 after getting engaged to Prince Harry. The Duchess of Sussex made the decision so she could focus on her duties as a member of the Royal Family.

Meghan and Harry left the Royal Family back in 2020 and signed an exclusive five-year deal with Netflix. However, Meghan seems to have moved on from her acting days and is instead producing content for the streaming giant.

So far, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have worked on several projects, including their bombshell six-part docuseries Harry & Meghan. Harry has also worked on his documentary Heart of Invictus, with it now announced the couple will create two brand new shows, focusing on lifestyle and polo.

Harry is behind the polo show which will give “unprecedented access to the world of professional polo,” while Meghan’s will tie in with her new business American Riviera Orchard. The series will “celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship.”
