Just months after marrying Prince Harry in 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to Tonga, where Meghan suffered an unfortunate fashion mishap

When Meghan Markle married into the royal family in 2018, she was already well versed in the world of red carpets and public appearances due to her years as an actress.

However, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped out for an overseas royal tour, just months after their fairytale wedding, Meghan suffered an unfortunate fashion mishap. In October 2018, the royal newlyweds travelled to Tonga as part of their 16-day trip to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji and other Pacific Islands. Meghan and Harry disembarked their plane at Fua’amotu Airport, with Meghan dressed in a striking £380 Self Portrait dress.

The brightly coloured dress caught the attention of many royal onlookers, but for all the wrong reasons. The dress still had a label attached from inside the skirt of her dress, hanging just beneath the hem, which remained on show for at least five minutes as the Duke and Duchess walked along the runway.

The fashion error stunned several fans online, who jokingly speculated that perhaps Meghan had deliberately left the tag on in the hopes of returning the impeccable dress after the event had ceased.

Others however, questioned why her colleagues had failed to mention the glaring issue prior to her disembarking the flight, assuming Meghan had a team of stylists and assistants onboard the plane.

At the time of their royal tour, Good Morning Britain presenter Charlotte Hawkins defended Meghan’s mistake, insisting that it was “easily done” and might have been overlooked as the label is often hidden in different places in women’s clothes and you don’t automatically know where to look.

She said: “It’s easily done, you put it on and you forget. They put labels in all different places; sometimes it’s in the back, sometimes it’s in the bottom, sometimes it’s in the sleeve.”

Just two months before the awkward moment overseas, Meghan suffered another very unfortunate fashion moment when she and Prince Harry arrived at the wedding of Harry’s close friend Charlie van Straubenzee.

Travelling to the village of Frensham in Surrey, Harry and Meghan mingled with other wedding goers outside St Mary the Virgin church before the ceremony began, which took place on Meghan’s 37th birthday.

Wearing a £400 Club Monaco navy blue short-sleeved dress, the Duchess of Sussex accidentally missed a button and flashed her bra while waving to well-wishers. She coolly played it off and covered herself up before offering a cheeky smile in the direction of the photographers.
