Meghan poured her heart out to someone she had never met and said ‘they called months later and just talked to me like I was a therapist you talk to and we just had a great conversation’
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship was first revealed to the world back in 2016 with the couple trying the knot in 2018 before making the tough decision to step down as working royals at the start of 2020.
The eyes of the world were on the royal couple when they married in a fairytale service at Windsor castle, but not long after both Meghan and Harry have since confessed they were struggling. While Meghan was making attempts to fit into royal life she was struggling with everything that entailed. Harry and Meghan have both discussed the Duchess of Sussex’s declining mental health. They say they tried to broach the subject within the Royal Family but claim those talks went nowhere. After that, there were talks with friends which led to an escape to Vancouver Island for a six-week holiday.
The couple were also told they would financially be on their own after stepping down as working royals although King Charles provided some financial assistance during their first year outside of The Firm. However, the couple were left without any public funding to pay for their lives and the security that protected them.
During an interview with The Cut, Meghan admitted that confessing what her life was like to someone who wasn’t a part of it had become easier during the turmoil when she and Prince Harry were making their move away from the UK. During what has been dubbed “Megxit” it was agreed that the couple wouldn’t make any appearances on behalf of the late Queen and would no longer be permitted to use their HRH titles.
It was around this time that Meghan decided to confide in someone that she hadn’t met before. Although the duchess had never met Tyler Perry in person, he had reached out when she and Harry got married to say he was praying for her and “understood what this meant” Meghan told The Cut. He also told Meghan to call if she ever needed support or advice. She said it took her a very long time to reach out but once she did, she found herself telling him every detail of their situation in Canada.
In her interview, she said: “Sometimes, you can tell your life story to a stranger on a plane as opposed to some of the people that are closest to you.” In a candid chat with Kelly Ripa last year, Tyler disclosed that it was he who reached out to the Sussexes and sent them a note through a shared publicist from years ago, to say, ‘If you ever need anything, I’m here.” Recalling the conversation where Meghan poured her heart out he said: “she called months later and just talked to me like I was a therapist you talk to and we just had a great conversation.” After the conversation, Tyler offered Meghan and Harry the use of one of his homes – a house in Beverly Hills, complete with a security detail and this is how the Royal couple faced Megxit and started their new life in Southern California.
