Melania Trump has looked back on her 2019 state visit to Buckingham Palace, calling it “truly unforgettable” and sharing details of an “interesting conversation” she had with King Charles.

Remembering her touchdown in London six years ago, the 55-year-old revealed she and Donald Trump arrived in Marine One on the “perfectly manicured grounds” of the palace, where they were welcomed by Charles and his wife, Camilla, the then-Duchess of Cornwall, before being taken to meet Queen Elizabeth II.

In her memoir, titled Melania, the former First Lady also recalled a humorous moment during the formal welcome ceremony.

“Amid the pomp of the ceremonial welcome by British guards, a sudden gust of wind ruffled my hat. I quickly grabbed at it to hold it in place and shared an unrestrained moment of laughter with the Queen and the Duchess.

“It was a lighthearted and spontaneous moment in an otherwise formal and dignified occasion,” she said, reports the Mirror US.

Later that evening, Melania joined the state banquet inside Buckingham Palace, where she was placed next to the then-Prince of Wales.

She described the event as “a formal and elegant affair” and spoke fondly of catching up with him.

“Our paths had crossed many years ago in New York City. This time we engaged in an interesting conversation about his deep-rooted commitment to environmental conservation,” she revealed. Melania Trump has shared that the warm reception from the Queen and her family during their private dinners and tours of the Royal collection left a lasting impression on her.

The President was treated like royalty as he and his wife, Melania Trump, were guests of honour at Windsor Castle last night for another state banquet. During the evening, President Trump paid a heartfelt tribute to America’s relationship with the UK, stating “special does not begin to do it justice.”

The US leader also lavished praise on the King, describing him as a “very, very special man,” and highlighting his passions ranging from the environment to architecture.

Mr Trump addressed the guests gathered in Windsor Castle’s St George’s Hall: “Seen from American eyes the word special does not begin to do it justice.”

He continued: “We’re joined by history and faith, by love and language and by transcendent ties of culture, tradition, ancestry and destiny.

“We’re like two notes in one chord or two verses of the same poem, each beautiful on its own, but really meant to be played together.

“The bond of kinship and identity between America and the United Kingdom is priceless and eternal.”
