An expert has shared a homemade solution that will work in just 10 minutes to get your hob back to its sparkling best. Cleaning fans are raving about the method and you only need two cheap ingredients
You can transform your greasy, grubby hob in a matter of minutes – and it will only cost you 28p, an expert has revealed.
While it’s advisable to give the top of your oven a good wipe down after use, it’s a job that sometimes gets forgotten. And that can make shifting any baked-on dirt all the harder next time around.
Rather than turning to expensive chemical products, why not try a “simple, budget-friendly way” to get your hob gleaming – using just two everyday household items.
Property expert Terry Fisher of We Buy Any Home told the Express: “A sparkling hob not only enhances the aesthetics of your kitchen but can also play a pivotal role in attracting potential buyers.”
And he says the secret lies in the combination of white vinegar and baking soda; a dynamic duo that “effortlessly lifts stubborn stains”. According to Terry, all you need is one cup of vinegar, two tablespoons of baking soda, a microfibre cloth, water and a spray bottle.
“The beauty of this hack is its simplicity and accessibility. Anyone can achieve a spotless hob without resorting to harsh chemicals,” he said. “Spray the affected areas generously with white vinegar. Follow up by sprinkling two tablespoons of baking soda over the wet surface. Let this dynamic duo sit for about 10 minutes, allowing them to work their magic.”
Use a damp microfibre cloth and gently scrub the stains in a circular motion. Then wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth to remove any residue. You can easily pick up a bottle of white vinegar at Tesco for 35p, while 200g of baking soda retails at only 65p. That means that this “powerful cleaning hack” will cost around 28p each time you use it.
What’s more, the gentle nature of this method revitalises the hob’s surface “without the risk of damage or scratches”, according to Terry. But what about cleaning the oven itself?
Just recently, a woman posted a picture of her dirty oven door on the Mrs Hinch Army Cleaning Tips Facebook page, and asked for advice on what to use. She queried: “Keen on getting this clean. What products should I use?” Many fans offered suggestions – but one particular hack stood out as it’s so effective and cheap.
“Use a dishwasher tablet on the glass with hot water. I did this and it came up like new. Wear rubber gloves though,” one person said. She then shared a photo of her sparklingly clean oven door, saying it “looked like yours” and “took like 10 minutes to get like this”.
Explaining how to do the hack, she continued: “I dip it to make it wet, then I rub around but it kind of dissolves so I add more water to make it like a paste. I use like the little rectangle powder ones, not a liquid one (hope that makes sense). I own a cleaning company and find it the best way.”
And when it comes to cleaning the inside of the oven? “I use Mr Muscle all over the inside and leave for an hour or so and then I use a scrub daddy and boiling hot water. Oven Pride is good for the oven racks, to soak in the bag but that’s all I use,” the woman added.
“If your racks are bad I would soak them overnight in the bag with a towel under it on the draining board next to the sink, or even soak them for a few hours if you can’t do overnight.”
