Summer is well and truly drawing to a close as the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain. The warning, which covers all of London, begins at 10pm this evening (Thursday, August 28) and ends at noon tomorrow (Friday, August 29).

This is a dreary end to an otherwise brilliant summer where thermostats were known to pass the 30C mark. We should brace ourselves for adverse effects on public transport, particularly delays.

Drivers should expect flooded roads, and there is also the possibility of homes getting flooded. Of what to expect, the weather authority said: “Bus and train services probably affected with journey times taking longer. Spray and flooding on roads probably making journey times longer. Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely.”

Met Office weather warnings work in three tiers: yellow, amber, and red. Yellow means severe weather is due, but the certainty of serious impacts is low or uncertain.

An amber warning means there is a high likelihood of widespread and significant impacts from severe weather, requiring you to change your plans and take action to protect yourself and your property. And if you hear of a red warning, the weather is set to be extremely dangerous with a high risk to life.
