Autumn has arrived and taken the sunshine with it
Looking out the window and dreaming of the summer weather? We’ve got bad news – the grey skies are here to stay.
The Met Office is predicting overcast conditions from now (October 14) until the late morning on Saturday (October 18), meaning there will be very little, if any, sunshine to be found. The weekend will then switch intermittently between the two before clouds set again on Sunday evening.
If you’ve got outdoor plans, your brightest bet is from around 11am until 5pm on Saturday as there is zero chance of rain and very little wind. It appears the icy grips of winter are holding off for now too, as temperatures are hovering around 15C.
The weather experts’ upcoming forecast reads: “Little change overall. Staying mostly dry, but mostly cloudy skies producing the odd spot of rain now and again. Perhaps brighter Saturday. Temperatures near normal, with winds remaining light.”
BBC Weather mostly agrees, though its meteorologists believe the sun will instead break through on Friday (October 17). The authority is also expecting light rain to hit the capital for the entirety of Sunday (October 19).
Sadly, this pattern could continue into next week as pressure swells across the UK. This will bring drizzly rain to parts of the southeast and north, mainly over the higher ground. The Met Office long-range forecast states: “Through the end of the weekend into the following week a transition to a more changeable period will occur. Low pressure systems will likely move west across the UK in some fashion bringing spells of rain, that may be heavy at times, and periods of stronger winds.
“There will however likely be some drier interludes for many areas. Temperatures likely near normal for the time of year.” So, before that comes to town, make sure to get out and enjoy this weekend coming.

October 15 – Overcast and light wind, 15C/10C
October 16 – Overcast and light wind, 16C/11C
October 17 – Overcast and light wind, 15C/11C
October 18 – Overcast changing to sunny intervals by late morning, 15C/8C
October 19 – Sunny intervals changing to cloudy by lunchtime, 15C/11C
