There are two separate weather warnings in place over London
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for 21 hours of heavy rain and a spell of strong winds which is set to batter London. There could be winds of up to 48-miles-per-hour in the capital on Thursday (October 23).
A yellow weather warning is issued when there is a chance of disruption to travel, mild damage to buildings, and a small chance of injuries and danger to life. There are two warnings in place over London on the same day – one for rain and one for wind.
The warning for rain is in place over the South West, South East, the Midlands and some of the north on Thursday, from midnight until 9pm. There is also a warning for wind over the south east, part of the midlands and some of the north on Thursday, from 9am until the end of the day.
Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster, Tom Crabtree, said: “By Wednesday evening we’ll see increasingly unsettled weather moving in from the west. Overnight on Wednesday heavy rain and some strong gusty winds will move along the south of the UK. Accumulations of 25-40mm of rain are possible over 12 ours or so in southern counties.
“The unsettled conditions will become more widespread across the UK through Thursday with further heavy showers bringing more rainfall to many parts of the UK. It is possible severe weather warnings will be issued for this unsettled weather, and with some uncertainty over the exact positioning and detail of the low-pressure system, people should keep up to date with the weather forecast as it evolves this week.”
Winds are set to peak at around 48 miles-per-hour at 4pm on Thursday. It is also set to rain for the entire day, although the heaviest of this should fall between 9am and 2pm.
The weather will significantly improve the following day, when things are forecast to be partly cloudy with sunny intervals at 12C. These milder temperatures will continue over the weekend.
