A man in his 40s was knifed at a corner shop in South Norwood yesterday evening (July 16). Police rushed to Portland Food & Wine, on Portland Road, just before 7.30pm following calls about a stabbing and assault.
It is believed the injured man is a shop worker but this is yet to be confirmed. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital for further treatment.
His condition is not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police this afternoon. Two other men – aged 39 and 33 – were also found with minor injuries.
A man in his 30s was arrested shortly after by officers on patrol nearby. He remains in custody on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Police were called at 19:25hrs on Wednesday, 16 July to reports of a stabbing and assault on Portland Road, SE25. Officers attended and found two men, aged 39 and 33, with minor injuries and a 48-year-old man with injuries consistent with a stab wound.
“He was taken to hospital by paramedics and his condition is not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing. The two other men were treated on scene.
“A man in his 30s was arrested shortly after, by officers on patrol, on suspicion of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm. He remains in custody. Enquiries are ongoing.”
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 7.30pm on Wednesday 16 July to reports of a stabbing on Portland Road, South Norwood. We sent resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an incident response officer and a paramedic in a fast response car.
“We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance. We treated a man for a stab wound and took him to a major trauma centre.”
