Police told media the incident did not involve a crossbow or any hostages despite claims on social media
Police are hunting for a suspect after an alleged attempted assault on a teenage boy in Bromley. The Metropolitan Police were alerted the the incident at Downham Way at around 1.31pm this afternoon (Tuesday, September 23). Officers rushed to the scene and found a teenage boy who told them that a man had threatened to attack him.
Police tried to enter a building with specialist support officers, but found that the suspect had already fled the scene. A police cordon was put in place as officers patrolled the area, but this has since been stood down. The man believed to have been involved in the incident remains at large.
MyLondon has been told this was not a hostage incident, and that there was no involvement of a crossbow despite reports on social media.
A Met Police spokesperson said: “On Tuesday, September 23, police were called to Downham Way, Bromley at 1.31pm following reports of an attempted assault. Officers attended the scene, and spoke with a teenage boy who stated a man threatened to assault him. Officers on scene attempted to enter an address alongside the support of specialist officers.
“It is believed that the suspect fled before officers were able to safely enter the property. The suspect remains outstanding and enquiries remain on-going to locate him. A cordon was put in place in order to protect the public’s safety. This has since been stood down.
