Making a runny poached egg is usually quite the challenge – though one TikToker swears by her surprisingly straightforward recipe that takes less than a minute to do

Mastering the poached egg is no mean feat – but one simple hack may just save you a lot of hassle.

From too runny, to not runny enough, it can take years to perfect the art of poaching an egg. Though one influencer claims her trick will take your full English to a whole new level – and it doesn’t even involve a frying pan.

Believe it or not, the mother unveiled that she only uses a microwave, which may sound crazy, but actually poaches an egg in less than a minute. Speaking on her daughter’s TikTok (@danarebeccadesigns), she said: “I recently learned how to poach an egg and I thank whoever it was on TikTok.

“Break an egg in a small Pyrex [bowl], add a little bit of water, just to cover the yolk. Put it in the microwave – mine goes for 44 seconds… On the timer for the microwave, it can go between 36 and 45 seconds.”

Once the time was up, the mum then showcased her ‘perfect poached egg’ which her daughter sliced with a fork to reveal it’s gooey, runny yolk. “Look at that!”, she said in disbelief.

Unsurprisingly, the post has since racked up hundreds of comments, with many users eager to try out the wildly straightforward hack for themselves. One person wrote: “Just tried it after watching this and they came out great! Fast and easy. Thank you as well.”

Another shortly added: “Lol lol omg wish I saw this before I attempted my first poached eggs this morning.” Others however confessed that their attempts of the trick ended up in disaster, with the egg exploding inside their microwaves.

“It didn’t work for me, it’s exploded in the microwave. Thirty minutes to clean the mess,” one person claimed, as someone else chimed in: “Annnnnnnnd….I just destroyed the inside of my microwave.”

According to Trey Braswell, president of Braswell Family Farms, this generally happens when an egg is put under too much pressure, but there are some easy ways to get around this. “The reason eggs, particularly poached eggs, explode in the microwave is due to the buildup of steam inside the egg,” she explained in an interview with Simply Recipes.

“The water inside the egg heats up rapidly, turning into steam, but this steam doesn’t have an easy way to escape. If the pressure builds up too much, the egg will explode.”

Experts suggest that piercing the yolk with a toothpick or knife can help to reduce this pressure, while flipping them half way through the cooking time can allow more steam to escape.
