A Horse Guard was seen collapsing due to the heat during a parade at and had to be stretchered off. The incident occurred during the Brigade Major’s Review at Horse Guards Parade in London on Thursday (May 29), involving a member of the Coldstream Guards.
The Household Division, comprising over 1,000 soldiers and nearly 200 horses, were being inspected by the Brigade Major of the Household Division. Regrettably, it’s not uncommon for Horse Guards to faint as they are on their feet for so long, including being seen outside Buckingham Palace daily.
In March, a clip circulated on social media showing a member of the Irish Guards seemingly on the verge of fainting. The soldier, fully clad in ceremonial uniform, wobbled precariously before being steadied by another guard.
Fainting episodes also occurred during Queen Elizabeth II’s state funeral in September 2022. A police officer on duty fainted and was stretchered away just before the procession made its way down the Mall.
Another soldier collapsed, and at least two other military personnel needed assistance at the end of the Queen’s coffin procession, reports the Express. Lastly, during the first heatwave of 2024, a Cavalry Guard dramatically fell to the ground during rehearsals in London as temperatures soared to 27C.
