A bizarre glitch on the social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, is taking users to a Money Saving Expert page when they click on unrelated photos or videos. The strange experience is happening to some X users when they tap on any image, video or link.
The X site will then redirect users who have clicked to the Money Saving Expert (MSE) website’s car finance free reclaim page. But the MSE team have confirmed they have nothing to do with this – and don’t know why it’s happening.
MSE say the issue appears to have started from around Wednesday, May 22, and they’ve been receiving hundreds of reports of X glitching to the page since then. However, some users have also said they get taken to other websites, not just MSE.

In an article on the MSE website explaining the glitch, the team say: “At MSE, we use Twitter to share MoneySaving tips and updates through our official profiles @MoneySavingExp and @MSE_Deals – but we DON’T advertise on the platform. Our founder Martin Lewis also has a profile @MartinSLewis.”
However, they suspect the incidents are related to X’s ‘community note’ addition to the platform. Twitter’s community notes feature allows select users of the platform to add extra information, context or fact-checks under any given post.
MSE say: “The redirection glitch seems to have cropped up around the same time that a community note was added to a claim firm’s advert about mis-sold car finance. The community note in question linked to our free car finance reclaim tool & guide – the same page that users who encounter the glitch are sent to.
“To be clear – we didn’t add this community note, and we don’t know for sure that it’s what’s causing the issue, but it’s our best guess based on what we know so far.”
MSE say they have reported the issue to X, but so far have received no information as to what has been causing the glitch. They have not been given any advice for users on how to avoid it, either.
