The effect, which sees the cat with two different fur colours evenly split down their face, is very rare in felines. Pebbles the cat has been praised by members of the public who say it only adds to the beauty of the animal.

One person wrote: “Absolutely breathtaking and gorgeous cat!” Another added: “Yes, I’m totally in love with Pebbles! She not only has the beautiful, unique markings on that sweet face but the most gorgeous blue shining eyes!! A true beauty! I could look at her all day.”

A third added: “She’s so pretty!” The condition which led to Pebbles’ two-coloured face is extremely rare in cats, making the viral post all the more interesting.

Chimera, the condition which leaves cats with more than one fur colour, is an unlikely phenomenon which is not usually meant to affect the feline creatures.

Information from Purina confirmed the effect is not often seen in cats but those who do have it will look very unique. Their website reads: “Chimera cats are some of the most beautifully marked cats in the feline world.

“There are many questions as to how they gained their markings, and whether they were intentionally bred to look that way. The Chimera cat is made up of cells from two different embryos, which fuse together in the very early stages of pregnancy.

“However, this mix in DNA will show differently in each cat. Some may be born with slight differences in colour, whilst others will have such dramatic colour differences that you will have that striking split-face Chimera effect.”

It’s only an appearance difference for Pebbles and other Chimera-affected cats, with no personality changes to worry about.

Purina experts added: “Most Chimera cats are sweet and gentle, but they can have an independent and confident side to them.

“Some owners might say that they can also be stubborn at times. Their personalities come through in their body language, much like other cat types.”

There are very limited details on how the condition affects cats, though it has been noted that there could be issues with a few “specific health conditions, which can shorten their lifespan.”
