M&S has left amused customers positively baffled after suggesting what a ‘Sunday uniform’ is – with some fearing the skimpy get-up would attract some startled looks
You’ve heard of school uniforms and work uniforms, but have you ever heard of a ‘Sunday uniform’?
For most of us, getting dressed on a Sunday morning usually involves getting as comfy as possible – while trying to banish all thoughts of Monday – but M&S has decidedly different ideas. In a Facebook post that has since attracted some pretty brutal mocking, the iconic British retailer appeared to suggest the go-to Sunday look would involve kicking about in a pair of bikini knickers and a midriff-bearing shoulderless top.
Now, for those of us with shopping lists to tick off, relatives to visit, and prams to push around the park, this rather racy ensemble doesn’t exactly scream practicality, although it may well solve the issue of getting your trousers muddy while out gardening – by not putting them on in the first place.
In a post that has since clocked up hundreds of laughing emoji reactions, M&S shared a snap of a scantily clad model, bare skin gently dappled with sunlight. Captioned ‘Sunday uniform’, the store directed viewers to a pair of ribbed bikini knickers with pretty lace detail.
Needless to say, if you’re rustling up a plate of piping-hot roast potatoes this afternoon, you’re probably better off adding a few more layers…
Thoroughly tickled by the ad, one surprised customer commented: “Yes, I always dress like this on a Sunday. It’s perfect for walking the dog, and with all this rain we’ve had recently, I dry off so much quicker with less clothing on.”
Another quipped: “My son came to visit me. I wore my new Sunday uniform. He left after three minutes. Still wondering why. Thoughts?”
Leaving fellow shoppers in hysterics, a third amused individual wrote: “I’m surprised at the negativity in the comments. As a 39-year-old woman, this is exactly what my Sunday morning outfit looks like when I’ve gone to bed too drunk to put my pyjamas on, had a hot flush in the middle of the night, and got my going-out top tangled around my armpits.”
Will you be trying out M&S’s Sunday uniform this weekend? Let us know in the comments!
