Instagram and Tiktok influencers are flocking to the vast food hall to record their experiences
Customers say they are “getting lost” in a revamped M&S superstore in West London, which has enlarged its shop floor by a whopping 75 per cent after taking over three neighbouring units. The M&S store on Chiswick High Road reopened to much fanfare this week, delighting shoppers with its fresh new design and a vast Food Hall to fulfil their every Christmas need.
A new in-store bakery serves up M&S’ seasonal collection of breads and sandwiches, while the new coffee counter tempts shoppers with a satisfying range of barista-made hot drinks including a Spiced Turmeric Latte. During the renovations works, the store closed for several months but over 50 new jobs have been created at its reopening. Store Manager Dan Talmadge was joined by long-serving colleague Jill to cut the ribbon this morning just before 9am.
Mr Talmadge said: “We are so excited to re-open the store and welcome our customers back. We have been counting down the days and it’s fantastic to be able to deliver the very best of M&S Food on Chiswick High Road, building on our history here dating back over a century.
“The response from customers has been amazing already and the team and I can’t wait to help deliver that trusted value, unbeatable quality and that touch of M&S magic we’re known for this Christmas.”
And it seems customers have flocked to the cavernous new store. Posting on Instagram, local guide ‘Pictures of Chiswick’ wrote: “Everyone is in the reopened M&S. It looks fantastic and is so big that I got lost in it! It looks a lot like a branch of Whole Foods, one of my favourite shops.”
But the local guide wasn’t thrilled with the store’s selection of groceries, adding: “It won’t be getting much of my money though. As someone who loves food and cooking, the huge volume of pre-prepared processed food in plastic packaging made my spirits sink. Nothing like Whole Foods after all then.”
Posting on Tiktok, influencer Nicole Gaffney described the new store as “absolutely huge”, adding: “I’ve just has a very successful shopping spree, a frivolous one with stuff that we didn’t need but it was a really nice shops. It still has lots of tills, and loads of self-checkout tills.
“I just thoroughly enjoyed it and it’s really nicely laid out, although it will take getting a bit of bearings as I couldn’t really figure out where certain things were, but overall experience 10/10. Very nice staff and I even got to see Percy Pig.”
M&S states that customers will find plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables to choose from in the store, including festive-themed fresh market specials, while a new hot chicken counter sells BBQ and butter-basted flavour British rotisserie chicken. Elsewhere, a new Mai Sushi counter offers plenty of handcrafted lunch choices.
The store also sells the M&S’ ‘Remarksable Value’ range, which offers over 100 everyday essentials with their prices benchmarked against key competitors, as well as the family-friendly ‘Bigger Pack Better Value’ range.
