A mum has started a debate online after she declared that ‘most people’ must ‘pee in the pool’ when they’re on holiday – as many have told her she’s very wrong
Be honest with yourself–- have you ever gone for a wee in a swimming pool?
We all know the feeling. You step into a shower, dive into a pool, or wade out into the sea, and then it hits you – the unbearable urge to go to the toilet. The etiquette around what to do in that situation has been an ongoing debate for decades, with some admitting they do, in fact, wee in the shower.
And while you might think peeing in the shower is gross, it’s ultimately up to you what you do in your own home when you’re the only person using the shower. What you do in a public swimming pool, however, is an entirely different question.
One mum divided opinion online after she declared that “most people” must pee in the pool when they’re on holiday. The woman explained that she recently went on holiday to a hotel with a large pool and a “swim-up bar” where you could order drinks without ever getting out of the water.
And during her time by the pool, she saw people drinking and chatting for “hours” without getting out, meaning they must either have bottomless bladders or, more likely, they were weeing in the pool.
She wrote in a post on Mumsnet: “AIBU [Am I being unreasonable] to think that most people pee in the pool on holiday? I just got back from a hot holiday. The hotel had a lovely big pool, with a swim-up bar serving all manner of cocktails, wine, and beer. People would be in the pool for hours drinking and chatting. Surely everyone is actually peeing in the pool?”
The woman then asked fellow Mumsnet users if they would wee in the pool on holiday, and it wasn’t long before chaos erupted in the comments. Most people claimed the very thought was “disgusting”, while others said it’s only ever acceptable to do so in the sea.
One person wrote: “No. That is disgusting. Stop being dirty and lazy,” while another said: “No I don’t pee in swimming pools at home or on holiday. Things like this put me off swimming. I wish people wouldn’t be so disgusting and selfish.”
Someone else argued: “God no! In the sea, yes, in a pool absolutely not, even my little one gets out to use the loo.” Another said there are probably plenty of people who do wee in pools, but noted they would be too embarrassed to admit it. They wrote: “The thing is, though, you are unlikely to get many people coming on and saying they do. There is a massive bias on these types of threads!”
