One savvy mum is sharing her handy trick for maximising space in your fridge this Easter to fit in all the goodies for your roast – and all you need is one common kitchen item
If you struggle with fridge space ahead of a big family event, this hack is for you.
For many families, Easter Sunday sees us all come together and have a big roast dinner, culminating in eating far too much chocolate and feeling way too full. But if you’re in charge of cooking this weekend, then you might be wondering how on earth you’re supposed to store all the ingredients in your fridge before the time comes to cook it.
Well, one mum has your back, as she’s come up with the perfect hack that helps her double the space in her fridge for busy times of year – and all you need are a couple of the cooking racks out of your oven.
The mum, from the US, shared her helpful trick on Facebook, where she explained that she used cooking racks to give her extra shelves in her fridge. In total, the mum managed to transform her fridge into a five-tier beast, allowing her to stack bowls and containers on top of one another with ease.
Her post – which was initially shared to promote extra fridge space over Christmas – read: “Remember to use your cooling racks for extra space around the holidays.” If you don’t have any oven racks to spare, you can always use baking trays or chopping boards, or even cooling racks that you would normally use to help cakes cool down after they’ve been cooked.
You can also move the existing shelves around to make room for more food, and the make-do oven rack dividers. But make sure that all of your containers are properly covered first so as not to contaminate anything underneath.
Many Facebook users praised her for sharing the handy tip, as they said it would make Christmas prep so much easier. One said: “That is an awesome idea!” Another added: “How didn’t I think of this before? Genius.” A third shocked responder said they couldn’t believe they’d never thought of the idea themselves.
