A mum woke up one morning to find two ‘terrifying’ warning signs of something living in her kitchen – and her fears only grew when people told her what the creature was

This mum’s worst fears just came true.

Few things make your blood run cold like waking up in the morning to discover that something – or someone – has been in your home while you were sleeping. From finding your kitchen infested with ants to coming face-to-face with a huge spider, there are many creatures that we’d really prefer to stay outside.

One mum has revealed her worst nightmare was realised when she went into her kitchen one morning and found “signs of a creature” in her home. The mysterious animal had left droppings in the woman’s sink, as well as on a plate with two avocados on it – which the creature had also made a meal out of.

In a post shared on the Pest Help Australia page on Facebook, the mum wrote: “Guys please help. I have woken to signs of a creature overnight. What do you think it is and what should I do? I don’t do well with these things.”

It wasn’t long before commenters were telling the mum exactly what it was that made its way into her house – a mouse. One person wrote: “You got a mouse,” while another simply added: “Mice.” Someone else suggested the woman call a pest control agency, as they posted: “Mice. Best bet to contact pest control company so there is no secondary poisoning and it’s done properly.”

Other comments also told the mum to “pest-proof all access points” such as small holes and cracks in her walls or floors. But another person said the mouse may have found a way up through the drain, as that would explain the droppings in the sink. The mum replied: “There’s a good chance of that because there’s no other entry/exit points really!”

We previously detailed the warning signs that could point to you having rats or mice in your home, including droppings, a strong smell of ammonia, scratching noises, and tiny footprints in dusty areas. We also shared top tips on how to get rid of the pesky rodents, as one expert said: “As soon as you confirm signs of rodents you should restrict access to their lifelines (food, water and shelter).”

The expert also said that if you do see holes in your exterior or if you suspect that your drains have been compromised, then “be sure to talk to a professional pest controller”.
