A terrified three-year-old girl told her mum and dad a ‘monster’ was living in her bedroom wall – and it turns out their family home had been invaded by 60,000 honeybees
Children have vivid imaginations – so it’s no wonder so many believe there’s a monster lurking underneath their bed. But this was the reality for three-year-old Saylor Class who insisted there were ‘monsters’ living in the walls of her home in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Her mum, Ashley Massis Class, dismissed her ‘monster’ claims as any parent would – and simply gave her a bottle of water so she could ‘spray away any of the monsters at night”, reports the BBC. But it turns out the young girl was right to be concerned – as a beekeeper went on to discover around 60,000 honeybees living inside her bedroom wall, causing more than £16,000 ($20,000) worth of damage.
In a TikTok video, Ashley shared a thermal image of the wall with the caption: “When your daughter has been hearing ‘monsters’ in the walls”. Following this, she shows a clip of a giant hole in the wall revealing the hive. She added: “What nightmares are made of.”

Beekeeper Curtis discovered honeybees not only behind the wall but also making their way into the floorboards in the attic. He believes that Ashley and her family have been living alongside the bees for around eight months – with him removing about 20,000 bees and more than 100 pounds of honeycomb each day since their discovery.
Thankfully, he was able to locate the queen bee and remove her from the hive, encouraging the other bees to relocate and leave the home. In another TikTok video, Ashely said: “Curtis has been a godsend helping us with this whole process.”
Now, the family must wait two weeks before they can patch up the giant hole in Saylor’s bedroom, with Ashley joking: “Chalk this up to as one of the items I did not think I would be having to deal with while being 10 weeks postpartum.”
Commenting on her videos, one TikTok user said: “I would honestly rather have monsters in the wall than to have 50k bees.” Another user added: “But you know what, I’ll take bees over 50k spiders!” A third user said: “I would cry before knowing it was bees.”
