An anonymous 24-year-old shared a gut-wrenching cautionary tale about her boyfriend’s affair, with the internet in disbelief that he’d cheated with someone so close to her family
A devastated woman has shared the gut-wrenching story of her boyfriend’s affair, with the internet stunned that he had cheated with her own brother’s girlfriend. The anonymous 24-year-old said it was finally time to ‘get it off her chest’, warning readers to get ready for a ‘novella’ as she delved into the cautionary tale.
Taking to Reddit, she explained that she’d started dating a man called Allen at 23. Although she’d known him since nursery, the pair had never actually gotten along very well until one fateful Spring. “We quickly entered a relationship,” she wrote.
“Looking back, he never asked me to be his girlfriend or for exclusivity. After three or so months I asked if he was still seeing other people and he immediately turned it around saying, ‘No! Are you!!?! I couldn’t bear sharing you’. So then we were a couple.”
Fast forward eight months, and the pair had already moved in together despite her own mother’s warnings about the pace of the relationship. This soon became three years and, in that time, there were several blaring red flags. Drawing upon one instance, she said: “…He liked to write short stories. One day he forgot to log out.
“And while I didn’t read any of his emails, I noticed the first seven were from Ashley, my younger brother’s girlfriend. I asked Allen why he was emailing her so much and he said she’s an English major and was reading his stories. Like a fool, I believed him.”
Not long after, her suspicions took an even greater turn when coming back from a trip with her best friend. Arriving at their home, she found a dishevelled bed, lube on the table and all the liquor was gone.
Allen convinced her that he’d just been ‘having fun on his own’ while drinking liquor to cope with the fact his mum had cancer. The woman once again stayed after this, but couldn’t get over the two glasses she’d found in the sink.
She continued: “The day before Christmas Eve 2021 he broke up with me because ‘after my mom dies I’m leaving town, I’m not gonna be trapped here in this small town with you’. I said okay. I even helped him pack and a couple weeks later when his mom passed and he came around for comfort I gave it.
“Then before Valentine’s Day, I got a text from one of [my brother’s girlfriend’s] friends saying, ‘It seems like everyone but you and your brother know and I can’t stand the deceit after all you’ve done for that family— Allen and Ashley are together and have been for months. They were together for at least five months while they were with you and your brother’.”
The writer instantly threw up in shock – but that wasn’t even the worst of the situation. “It got worse,” she stressed. “They moved in together three blocks away from me. Allen even wrote a short story detailing the lies he told me and shared his ‘love’ story with Ashley with the world putting it up on his website.
“My brother and I both went to therapy for a while after. But sometimes I still feel so sick and so sad and so mortified that this happened.”
The anonymous admission was met with countless shocked comments on Reddit, with many in disbelief over Allen’s audacity to lie over and over again. One person wrote: “I am so very sorry. Some people are absolute trash, and unfortunately, you and your brother dealt with two of them at the same time.”
Another added: “You know, even though it may not feel like it now, this is a great outcome. Because instead of moving on and making two new people unhappy, they instead can turn their toxicity on each other.”
