A ’24-year-old’ woman claims she was left completely baffled last night after discovering her romantic doctor boyfriend was nothing of the sort – and it’s certainly triggered a reaction online
Have you ever fallen in love with someone’s career?
From sexy nurses, to macho firefighters – many of us swoon over the idea of someone’s job title. So, it’s no surprise that one dater was left gobsmacked when her romantic doctor boyfriend was revealed to be nothing of the sort.
Taking to Reddit to share her experience, the anonymous woman claimed that she’d met her match on a dating app three months ago. He claimed he was a doctor who studied Biology at a very prestigious US-based Ivy League school, which encompasses Yale, Harvard and Brown to name a few.
Although they hadn’t known each other for long, the woman claimed she very quickly fell in love. He was romantic, the sex was fantastic and she couldn’t really ask for much more.
Though, her happiness flipped entirely upside down just last night, when discovering that all he told her was seemingly an utter lie. “Last night, I just happened to walk into a Taco Bell and saw him working there behind the counter,” she wrote on the platform.
“We looked at each other, and I went up and ordered without addressing him. Then I went home to process what I had seen.” The woman claimed she’d tried ringing him today, but the Taco Bell employee just simply didn’t pick up the phone.
“How could he lie to me like this?,” she asked. “Do men do this often? I’m in absolute shock. Should I just forgive him for lying and move on with the relationship?
“Or should I dump him. I’m not sure if I would’ve given him a chance if I knew he worked at Taco Bell from the start, but I’m in love with him at this point. What do I do once I manage to talk to him again?”
The woman’s tale of betrayal has since racked up hundreds of comments on the platform, with some users even sharing similarly devastating stories of their own. One person recalled: “I dated a guy who told me he was the creative director for a film/entertainment company. We dated only briefly, he had a lot of emotional problems.
“Years later, in a strange coincidence, this same guy applied to be my boss’s personal assistant (I was doing the hiring), and I learned that all of that was a complete lie. He was basically a production assistant.”
Another added: “If he’s actually a doctor of any kind, he’s licensed in your state and you can look it up. It’s possible but not likely that he’s not lying about being a doctor. I knew a guy who drove Uber as a resident because the pay is s***after med school.”
Others however, slammed the woman as ‘immature’, claiming she shouldn’t fall in love with people so quickly. One wrote: “I’m gonna say this is the kindest way I can, you don’t sound very mature. First of all, three months is a very short time, not enough to fall in love.”
Someone else also chimed in: “You are infatuated with the idea of the man you thought he was. Time to grow up and realise the difference before you get really screwed over.”
