A man has slammed his cousin for wanting to name her daughter “after a demon” – and she refuses to listen to people telling her it’s a bad idea. He explained his cousins have a tendency to pick out ‘unusual’ names for their children, but he could never have guessed what the newest addition to his family would be called.

He said on Reddit: “One of my cousins named her child Lylyt, read as Lilith. Well, her younger sister is pregnant and she wants to name her child Aamon. Now, she says it’s after a character from a mobile game but Aamon is also a Marquis of Hell. You know who else is a demon? Lilith.”

In demonology, Aamon a Grand Marquis of Hell who ‘governs 40 infernal legions, and the seventh spirit of the Goetia’, according to The Demonic Paradise Wiki. He is either depicted as a wolf with a snake’s tail or as a man with a raven’s head and dog teeth.

He added: “I told her she’s naming her child after a demon and she responded with, ‘You are literally the only one who said that, maybe you’re the demon’.

“I am cackling at the thought that Lylyt’s cousin is Aamon. This side of my family is probably/maybe/sorta/kinda spawning demons, I don’t know?”

Commenting on the names, one user said: “Aamon is tragic. Lylyt is the real tragedy here.

“But regardless, I wish some parents would get it into their heads that they are naming people and not fantasy characters.”

Another user added: “I’m fine with Lilith as a name, but the way she spelled it, it’s going to be pronounced ‘lye lit’, poor kid.

“Aamon is a masculine name, and yes, the name of a demon, but at least it’s easy to spell and pronounce. Hopefully your other cousin won’t have a girl.”

A third user said: “Lilith is a pretty name, her figure was also adopted by an early feminist movement in the US.

“I don’t really know how many people would have the association of Lilith as a demon and also be taken aback by it. Lylyt on the other hand is completely insane.”

However, not everyone was taken aback by the name and explained that similar monikers were already popular. One wrote: “Is Aaron tragic now too? Amon is an Egyptian god. Eamon is an Irish name.

“So Aamon doesn’t seem that weird. Most people would have zero idea this name came from some demon character, like I have zero reference for what you’re referring to. Lylyt is awful though.”

A final user said: “My friend’s daughter is named Lilith. I don’t see anything wrong with it, but she also didn’t spell it super weird like your cousin. I also went to high school with a kid named Aamon.

“I knew Lilith is the mother of demons, but never knew Aamon was a demon name as well, which makes it funny to me that I went to high school with a kid named that since I attended a private Catholic high school.”
