A ‘traumatised’ mum’s told how she was ‘blindsided’ after finding out the news of her daughter’s death was an April Fool’s prank, but she’s refusing to forgive

A mum who is recovering from an April Fool’s prank played by her ‘cruel’ daughter has admitted she’s finding it hard to ‘forgive and forget.’ The 49-year-old, who revealed her daughter had always been a ‘prankster’ told how the 21-year-old had been in hospital for four days, where she visited her every day until 1 April, when her roommates and other friends took over.

On 1 April she told how she received a phone call from her crying roommate, who told her some devastating news: “She said that Susan’s condition suddenly worsened and she passed on. In hindsight, I should have thought something was up, but hearing that in the moment turned me into a sobbing wreck.”

She then told of her ‘surprise and horror’ when, half an hour later, her ‘deceased’ daughter Susan and her roommate appeared at her house shouting: ‘April Fool’s!’ “Turns out she was allowed to leave the hospital and that was how she decided to tell me,” she fumed.

After admitting the bitter-sweet prank had left her reeling, she confessed: “I did not know it was possible to be so relieved and p***ed at the same time. I called this joke horrible, screamed at her and told her she was NOT welcome in my house for the foreseeable future.”

At Easter, however, she told how she was hosting relatives, when her daughter let herself in to join the family gathering: “I made her give back her key and told her to get the hell out of my house, and while she persisted and was very stubborn about it she finally left crying. The rest of the gathering was understandably awkward.”

After admitting she was finding it incredibly hard to forgive, she said: “It’s not like I will never forgive her, or that I’m going no contact or anything like that, but I am just too hurt and angry to speak or look at her right now to have any sort of discussion about what happened.”

With her daughter calling her every day to try and make amends, she revealed that she had ignored all of her calls, with the family now split between those who believe there are consequences to actions, and those who thought she should forgive and move on.

She said: “While she has been in hospital, she is getting plenty of support from other people right now for me to be a necessity. If she wanted my support she would not do something so damn cruel. It doesn’t sit right with me at all to just let bygones be bygones right now, but some relatives, including my parents, say I should.”

After pleading for some unbiased advice from Reddit readers, she was met with a huge amount of support from other mothers who couldn’t believe what her daughter had done: “Telling a parent their child is dead is going too far and she needs to acknowledge that,” said one, while another commented: “That’s how people get traumatised!”

Another said she needed to take her time to heal from the pain: “You were really hurt in a way that was very unkind and the fact that your first instinct is to respond with kindness shows your heart is in the right place.”

Others couldn’t believe that they let the ‘joke’ continue for so long: “They let it go on for 30 minutes! Imagine how much pain she felt for that long,” said one, while other said: “I have kids and my entire world would fall apart. Half an hour would be an absolute eternity. That’s just pure evil.”
