A woman was given the creeps after her deceased ex-boyfriend appeared as ‘active in the last day’ on Snapchat and he was suggested to her as a friend on multiple occasions

A woman has been left spooked after her dead ex-boyfriend was suggested to her as a friend on Snapchat from beyond the grave.

Adding to the eeriness, she even claimed he was active on the social media platform “within the last day”. And despite her making a new account, she has again been presented with the same odd situation.

Taking to Reddit, she penned: “My dead ex-boyfriend keeps getting suggested as a friend. Snapchat says he’s been active within the last day.” And she continued in the Weird subreddit: “He’s the first suggestion on there. I had to make a new Snapchat because I forgot the password to my old one. This happened after he died, he keeps getting suggested as a new friend.”

It appears many others are in the same boat, as another woman described a similiar scenario in response. “I had a boyfriend who passed away who called my number from his phone twice over a week period,” she said. “I had his email on my phone so I tried to track his phone and it’s been off. It was just dead air when I answered.”

A second person detailed: “Yeah my best friend passed last year and Snapchat will still say he has just joined and says he tried to add me even though we were already best friends on there. It’s almost like he is messing with me.”

It appears the issue doesn’t solely lie with Snapchat – for other Redditors described relatable experiences on other platforms. “I have that issue with Facebook, keeps suggesting my dead twin as someone I should follow and that he’s been active on messenger,” one person cursed.

And a second person said: “My missing-presumed-dead almost-something’s alternative account keeps coming up in my recommended friends on Facebook. He went missing around this time in 2016 so it really sucks to keep seeing his face on my timeline, but I don’t have the heart to remove the suggestion either.”

Several other users, meanwhile, suggested the reason could be that the dead man’s phone number has been reassigned to someone else. “It’s more likely that someone alive was reassigned his number, joined Snapchat, and Snapchat is realising that this number is in your contacts, this isn’t that weird, but it is a little unsettling,” one person explained.

Another agreed: “Snapchat has been suggesting my late great grandmother to me as a friend for years. I think after a deceased person’s number is deactivated and reassigned, Snapchat’s algorithm can’t tell the person from the number and will suggest the account to you just because that number is in your phone.”

Whilst a third asked: “Has he been gone for a long time? Maybe his number got recycled and you’re getting pushed whoever has it now as a suggestion and they have your bfs name (whom I’m assuming is still saved in your phone) over whomever owns the profile attached to the phone number now.”

A fourth person shared an alternative theory, however, speculating: “Could be his family going through his old story’s and saved snaps. Reliving his life through saved snaps. I just went and checked and it gave me a flashback to this day two years ago and it showed my Buddy boy, I lost my dog back in February.”
