A woman was left deeply amused when after 18 months of feuding with her neighbour she moved out and her husband left an extremely petty parting gift for the man next door

A woman has divulged how her husband got the ultimate revenge on their neighbour after they complained about ‘everything’. The miffed mum took to social media to share her story of the 18-month battle she had with the man next door after her family moved into a new rental home. She told how their feud ran right until they moved out of the home prompting her husband to leave a petty parting gift.

She explained: “We moved into a rental house with our three kids and the day after we moved in, our boomer neighbour (let’s call him Gene) knocked on our door after my husband left for work. When I answered he skipped all pleasantries and introductions to gruffly inform me that the light switch in my family room closet needed to be turned off Iimmediately and that it was my duty to ensure that it was kept off.

  • ‘Entitled mum orders I wake her son up before school run – I taught her a lesson’
  • ‘I caught my mum sleeping with my husband – I can’t erase the image from my mind’
  • “Obviously puzzled by this demand, I asked what the switch was for. Gene said that the switch was for an exterior patio light that would shine into his bedroom at night and keep him awake…which was not acceptable. I figured the kids had turned it on while exploring the new house, so I assured him I’d turn it off. Without another word, he turned on his heel and went home.”

She continued on Reddit: “Unfortunately, my rude Gene encounters persisted during the 18 months we lived there. He would wait for my husband to leave, then come and complain and gripe at me about something we had done wrong- our dogs would loudly sniff at the fence if he was outside, our sprinkler was spraying too high, our trash can was too close to his, etc etc. Our other neighbours adored us and our kids, so I really don’t think we were the problem.

“I finally stopped answering the door, so he started leaving notes and even went as far as to find me on facebook and send a message there. Just. The. Worst. Husband tried to talk to him and tell him to leave me alone, but he’d deny any wrongdoing. Reasoning with him was pointless so we made the decision to just ignore him the best we could.

“We were finally moving to a new place out of town and my husband went back to do the final walk through of the house. When he left for the final time, he called me and to let me know he had a gift for me…. the last thing he did before locking the door and leaving that house for good? Turning on THE patio light switch in the closet knowing full well the landlord wouldn’t be there for final cleaning for 4 days. Best. Gift. Ever. I still laugh when I think about it.”

Other social media users then commented on the post as they shared in the story. One wrote: “I’d bet the light wasn’t even a big issue for him, as he was looking for excuses to complain about everything. But I hope I’m wrong and he did have a hard time at the end.”

A second commenetd: “Yeah, I’m waiting for husband to leave cause I can intimidate a woman without fear of repercussion. If I was the husband I would have told him that’s a hard no and he’s not allowed to interact with my wife our children without me present. Wife instructed to call the cops on him every time he shows up for documentation, in case things progress poorly.”

A third said: “Classic douchecanoe move. Had the same thing happen to me, bad for him because I don’t get intimidated easily. He’s down to bitching as he walks inside, but never to my face. He learned. All friendly to my bf though.”
