A bride-to-be has been branded ‘entitled’ after sharing her disgust upon hearing how her fiancé wants to change his surname before their wedding because he has never had a relationship with his father’s side of the family

A bride -to-be has shared her ‘outrage’ after her fiancé announced his plans to legally change his last name. She told how they had first met when they were 15-years-old, dating in high school, before connecting again as adults: “I definitely never got over him and when we reconnected I was so happy I might be getting another chance at forever with him,” she said.

She also shared how her fiancé had never had a relationship with his side of the family, with his father leaving when he was just two-years-old, and his grandfather raising him instead: “He now wants to take his last name,” she said.

With the wedding only four months away, she went on to say that after making comments to her about legally changing his name, she had hoped he had forgotten: “He’s never made any real effort to get the ball rolling so I was hoping he had decided it wasn’t important. My issue is I have always wanted his current last name and I just don’t feel like his grandpa’s name flows with mine.”

She then asked Reddit readers: “Am I wrong for being upset? I’ve wanted his last name since I was 15 and I have stupid notebooks with it scribbled all over,” before saying: “I never signed up to have his grandpa’s last name. That wasn’t the plan.”

Her post sent Reddit readers into overdrive, with commenters firmly on her fiancé’s side: “You do not sign up for someone’s last name, you sign up to marry them no matter what name it is,” said one. “It’s about loving and supporting each other – not just a name,” said another.

“Yikes! You are going to have to change your mindset if you want your marriage to be long lasting,” said one poster, while another berated her brashness, saying: “Sometimes you need to say it out loud to see how bratty it sounds. You’re wrong. No additional information needed.”
