One husband has been telling his friends and family his new-born daughter is called Georgina. Which is all well and good, but that wasn’t the name him and his wife decided on before she went into labour
One woman has reached the end of her tether – and says an apology isn’t enough.
Choosing a baby name can be an arduous task; couples can spend hours flitting back and forth trying to land on one they both like. After having their third and ‘final’ baby, one set of parents agreed on the name Emmeline for their new-born daughter. At least, that’s what the mum thought.
But after returning home from a 10-day hospital stay due to a ‘difficult’ labour, the mum was left reeling after opening cards and presents from friends and family congratulating them on the birth of ‘Georgina’.
Taking to Mumsnet, the anonymous woman says the name Georgina was a ‘top contender’ but she didn’t love it as much as Emmeline. “My husband had not expressed how much he loved the name Georgina – he was very much ‘I like all the names on the shortlist. You can choose.’ Which I did. Emmeline,” the post read.
After confronting him on the secret name change, the husband apologised and said he was under pressure from ‘everyone’ asking what the baby’s name was. “He says he can understand why I am upset but as we both like Georgina, why can’t we use it. Seeing as she doesn’t ‘feel like an Emmeline’,” she said, adding: “Right now I’m ready to leave that b***h’.
To add salt to the wound, her mum-in-law has already ordered a personalised baby blanket emblazoned with the name ‘Georgina’. “If this had been discussed, then sure, we both have to feel comfortable with the end name, but that decision can’t be with one parent alone, behind the other one’s back,” the woman concluded.

Unsurprisingly, hundreds of outraged users took to the comments section to slam the dad and urge the mum to stand her ground. In fact, the man did not get a single user siding with him. “Oh my god, I’d be fuming. What a d**k move. Well you’re going to have to come up with a new name and get him to text everyone he’s told and apologise that HE got the name wrong,” one person raged.
Another agreed, commenting: “I 100 per cent would not now bow to his ridiculousness and go with Georgina. It would be either Emmeline or another name altogether and HE needs to contact people to fix this.” While a third added: “This is outrageous and I’d be furious… Register her name yourself asap and have him text those he told me his mistake.”
