When a woman’s husband showed he was less than impressed with his middle-of-the-night wake-up call, she was left wondering whether she had done something wrong

Hearing things moving in the middle of the night when everyone else is sound asleep can be really unnerving.

That’s why one woman decided to wake her partner up when she “was woken up in the middle of the night by some noises and banging which sounded like they were in the second bedroom”. The 22-week pregnant woman’s “heart was racing” as it “sounded like an animal or person was moving about” and the noise seemed to move from the bedroom, onto the landing.

Not wanting to take any risks just in case there was an intruder in the house, she woke her hubby, telling him what she’d heard – but his reaction was not what she expected.

Taking to Mumsnet, the disappointed woman shared: “I woke my husband up and told him I thought there was something in the house. He got really angry with me for waking him up and said ‘What do you want me to do!? You really want me to get up!?'”

Rather than accepting she may have been frightened, he “stomped about, turning lights on”. He even shouted “what are you talking about?” then he got back into bed and referred to her as “silly and cruel” as there was nobody in their home.

She asked: “I think I thought he would want to protect us? I was quite scared. Should I just have gone and checked it out myself? (I’m 22 weeks pregnant if relevant). Was I unreasonable for waking him up?”

In the comments, people defended the woman. One wrote: “Of course you weren’t unreasonable. You were worried and thought something was in the house. You’re a team if something like that happens and two is better than one.”

Others said she shouldn’t have woken him up though, with someone writing: “Nobody wants to be woken up so you can understand why he was in a bad mood. At least he got up and went looking.”

Another even penned: “Totally unreasonable. If you were on your own you’d have had no option to investigate by yourself, and even if you had the decency to leave your husband asleep and it was something sinister I’m sure your screams would have alerted him to that fact quickly enough.

“I warn every single partner or person I’m liable to fall asleep in front of emphatically not to try and wake me. I’m beyond cantankerous and have been known to lash out while half-asleep. Sympathies entirely with your husband I’m afraid.”

A Mumsnet user pointed out she hoped he wouldn’t be as rude when they had a baby to feed in the middle of the night, sharing: “I hope he’s not going to create like that and stomp round like a dinosaur when the baby wakes you up for their night feeds.” Someone else simply wrote: “He’s a d**k”.
