A woman has been left heartbroken after discovering her husband has been living a ‘whole secret life’ when he goes to work – but he thinks she’s just overreacting
Finding out you don’t know your partner as well as you thought can be devastating.
Relationships are built on trust, and once one party does something to break that trust, there’s not much that can be done to salvage the bond you once had with your significant other. Whether it’s having an affair or simply lots of little lies that build up over time, the best way to keep a romance on track is to just be open and honest with each other.
This is why one woman has been questioning everything about her marriage to her husband after finding text messages between himself and another woman on his phone.
In a post on Mumsnet, the woman said she’s been suspicious of her husband for a while because he takes his phone with him everywhere, and when she finally got a chance to see it, she saw he’d been texting another woman for “five days straight”.
The woman admitted there “wasn’t much to the messages”, and the most incriminating thing she found was the woman stating her divorce had been finalised and her husband responding to say they should “celebrate with a vegan wrap”. And when she confronted her spouse, he seemed to have a reasonable explanation.
He told his wife he had met the woman while they worked at the same company, and although he has since left, the office is still close to where he currently works so they occasionally meet up. He explained the vegan wrap comes from a takeaway place where workmates often get their lunch and so he made the joke to “lighten her mood”.
But the woman was still displeased, insisting she doesn’t like the idea of her husband exchanging texts with a woman she has “never met or heard about”, and said it was like he was living “a whole secret life” when he goes to work.
She said: “My husband said he has previously casually invited the woman to our area so we can all meet since she has a child the same age as ours, but it has never happened as they are quite far away. He also said he hasn’t really discussed her with me because he didn’t find it particularly significant. I feel like he has a whole secret life when he goes to work that I know nothing about.”
Commenters on the post were largely on the husband’s side, however, with many saying they couldn’t “understand the problem” with the man having a work friend who happens to be a woman.
One person said: “Having a friend doesn’t mean he has a secret life. It means he had a friend.” While another added: “I think if he were cheating, he might go for something a bit more than a vegan wrap.”
