A bride stormed out of her own wedding after her brother-in-law proposed during her wedding day – despite telling him he wasn’t allowed to and is now wanting a divorce from her husband
Planning a wedding can be stressful – so when it comes to the big day you’d hope you can relax a little, but there was one part of this bride’s big day she was not expecting.
You would hope after months, or years, of planning, you’d know what was happening on your big day – but this bride was stunned when her husband didn’t mention the fact his brother was going to propose to his partner during their wedding. She claimed she was so shocked she stormed out – and said she’s “ready for an annulment” to her new husband.
The bride said the day was “perfect” except for one “major hiccup” during the reception. She admitted her husband Liam’s brother Ben rubbed her up the “wrong way” but wasn’t surprised when he had asked Ben to be his best man. She recalled how a few weeks before their wedding, Ben had revealed he was going to propose to his partner Melody.
As everyone shared their happiness for Ben, he then revealed he was “hoping to do it at the wedding”, which the bride admitted she “nervously laughed” at and said: “You do that any my brothers will throw you out of the venue!” But Ben got offended that I laughed…and I realised he was being serious” she wrote in a Reddit post.
She then claimed Liam said he could propose on their wedding day. She said how she told her husband-to-be this couldn’t happen and called it “bad taste”. She said the attention would be taken away from them and instead, offered to organise a separate party so he could do the proposal instead – to which Liam and Ben agreed to.
However, on their wedding day, she said everything had gone well until Ben’s best man speech. She detailed: “It was full of bad jokes and weird attempts at puns but it was overall very nice. Part of Ben’s speech was to move around the tables, which should’ve been a red flag but I decided to not say anything.
“At the end of the speech. Ben stopped at Melody and proposed! I was so mad that I stormed out. Liam and my mom came to comfort me. Liam apologised over and over, saying ‘They told me it’d be fine’,” and said she was “done” with the wedding.
She said she still hasn’t spoken to Liam a week since the wedding and shared: “My side of the family is angry at Liam and his family. His family, on the other hand, are congratulating Ben and Melody. Most of their Facebook feed are pictures of Ben’s proposal.
“I was prepared to file for annulment and move on. That’s until Liam sent me an email. I learned that Ben and their parents applied pressure over and over on Liam until he finally caved the night before the wedding. I asked him why he didn’t come to me and he said ‘You were so stressed and I didn’t want to worry you!’ Liam concluded with ‘I want another chance. Please give me another chance!” and has now asked others what she should do.
Redditors were quick to chime in with their thoughts, as one person suggested: “That family is going to continue doing this in the future, they know which buttons to press to pressure Liam. The proposal is just the beginning and should be the line in the sand. They’ll keep stomping over your boundaries.”
A second simply said: “He just showed you that even on your wedding day his family will come first.”
