A disgruntled bride has revealed how her ‘aggressive’ maid-of-honour ruined her big day, shouting at her and her bridesmaids before stealing the couple’s cake
A woman has told of her wedding woe after her ‘meddling’ and self-appointed Maid of Honour planned a ‘disastrous’ day for her, leaving her living with ‘rage and regret’. The 42-year-old told how, before she had married her partner of seven years, she was a self-confessed ‘commitment-phobe’ who wasn’t interested in the planning process, enlisting the help of her best friend of 20 years to be her maid-of-honour, before finding out she had booked a trip to Bali and was unable to take on the role.
And while another friend had offered to step in to help plan the wedding, she said: “Yes, she decided to plan my wedding because I was going: “Too far outside the norm”. After revealing she had been given a 1950s book on ‘how to plan my wedding and be a good wife,’ by the friend, she told how her wedding gift from her was to be a cake for the couple’s big day: “I was asked what flavours I wanted, and I said chocolate. I was told that my cake would be three layers. Top and bottom layer will be a fruit cake, and the middle layer would be chocolate.”

She then told how in the three days running up to the wedding, with the couple and their children moving, her maid-of-honoursaid she would drop the cake to the reception location before heading over for hair and make-up on the big day. After arriving 45 minutes late and being told she was too late for hair and make-up, she told the bride: “No, do it. I shouldn’t have to go without because I made your cake and dropped it off.”
With the photos being taken and the bride sharing her maid-of-honour was: “Scowling and frowning and looking grumpy,” she revealed the photographer had pulled her to one side and said: “Stop scowling and smile. You are at a wedding, not a funeral.” And when it came to the cutting of the cake, nothing could have prepared her for what her maid-of-honour had done. She added: “I asked where she was as I hadn’t seen her for a while and was told: ‘She took a layer off your cake and left!’
“Yeah, she took my chocolate cake layer to feed to her kids at home.” After admitting they were no longer friends, with the bride telling how she had since found out she had a drinking problem, she said: “10 years ago now, and I cannot FATHOM letting her back in my life. Who needs friends?”
However, after taking her wedding woe to Reddit, many readers thought she should have been clearer in setting boundaries: “Throughout this entire thing, you never once stood up for yourself. That’s on you,” said one, while another said: “This reads as I did nothing to plan my own event and am mad someone did sh*t I didn’t like.”
Another commented: “I am so confused about why you refused to plan anything for your own wedding?? Like, who did you expect to do it?” Others, however, were on her side, with one commenting: “The trash took itself out. Hope you’ve had 10 years of wedded bliss,” and another commenting: “Where the f**k were your other girlfriends?”
