A man with a ‘unique’ name is counting his blessings his parents decided to give him a ‘tame’ moniker in comparison to his brother, who becomes the butt of every joke because of it

While some parents stick to well-known monikers when naming their children, others choose to think ‘outside of the box’ and give their little ones a more unusual name. That’s exactly what one couple decided to do when naming their boys – sharing how they took inspiration from their favourite movie for their eldest.

But sharing how this decision has impacted his life, the oldest child said on Reddit : “My mum got my name from Tristan, a character from a movie called Legend of the Falls, but she wanted to be more unique so she changed the a to an o to make Triston. I think this is a common-ish spelling though, because it’s on the Wikipedia for the name Tristan, so…

“My brother’s name is… something else.” He went on to explain how his brother’s name is Ollyver, pronounced like Oliver. He added: “They liked Oliver but wanted to make it unique. There have been varied opinions on both of our names by my friends and such.”

Commenting on his post, one user said: “I don’t understand why it’s so cool to make your kid grow up with a name that nobody can spell correctly.” Another user added: “Ys in the middle of names is almost always tryagyque [sic]. Your brother got scrywed [sic]. Neither name will be horribly mispronounced though, so that’s a small blessing.”

A third user said: “You should be glad you got Triston.” One more user added: “It’s not unique. It just makes you look like you have the IQ of a meatball.”
