A woman was so baffled by her neighbour’s behaviour as she was acting ‘possessive about the street in front of her home’ – but to put her car in the garage, she needed to drive along it
Some people get very possessive about the land outside of their homes, despite the fact that they don’t own it.
Many arguments are started over parking cars when one person believes that they are in the right, and the other person is doing something horribly wrong. One woman explained that to put her car in the garage, she needs to drive along her neighbour’s curb, but her neighbour has “scared” her into thinking that she owns the land outside her home – so it always makes her feel uncomfortable. “My neighbour doesn’t like it when I drive against her curb to park inside my garage”, she explained.
The woman took to Reddit’s ‘Neighbours From Hell’ forum to explain: “I have this neighbour who is super possessive about the street in front of her house. I need to drive against her curb/street side to park my car inside my garage, as my garage is across the front of her house.”
But rather than just accept it, and let it happen, the neighbour will “watch” her, to make sure that she doesn’t use her curb. “What she fails to understand is that she doesn’t own the street in front of her house”, she fumed.
She explained that she didn’t “want to cause tension”, but equally, she didn’t want the woman next door to think she was too “scared” to drive the way she wanted, and that she thought “the curb belongs to her”.
She finished the post by asking: “Should I avoid her curb and drive more in the middle or should I continue to stand my ground and drive against her curb?”
In the comments, someone fumed: “Ignore her. It’s a public right of way. Who cares what she likes”, and another joked: “Park in front of her house. She will get over the turning issue and beg you to do it.”
Another raged: “People are so delusional. I feel it’s some sort of power complex, or maybe they have never felt control over their life so they find some amount of it in menial things like curbs or public parking spaces.
“We have a s****y neighbour who wants the space in front of my house. When she doesn’t get it, she just waits for the other person to move and then she parks there. It doesn’t change her life, it just means she doesn’t have to walk an extra 5 seconds to her car. She seems to just wait until it’s free and then stops her day to do it. Lazy beyond belief. If she wasn’t such an a**e, it wouldn’t bother me. But she is. It’s just another thing to add to her tally.”
