Many of us have irritating neighbours, but one person who has lived next to a loud family for two and a half years reckons they’ve finally reached their ‘last straw’

A furious resident has shared how their annoying neighbour keeps screaming through the night – but it’s the least of their worries. The family next door have another annoying habit that has become “the last straw” for their fed-up neighbour. In a post to the r/NeighborsfromHell Reddit page, the person living next to the loud family said they felt “extremely lucky” to have moved into affordable social housing.

However, they said they had spent the last two and a half years living next door to a family from hell, and it has been a trying experience. The anonymous resident complained they have had to contend with screaming in the night and hearing “unbearable” shouting matches between members of the family.

But it is the silent actions of the children that have proven to be the worst of all.

They fumed: “Our neighbours have three kids, five if friends come over which they do often. The wall separating us and the neighbours is literally a single row of bricks.

“Meaning we can hear footsteps, general conversations, them watching TikTok and you name it. But it’s only when they shout that it becomes unbearable.

The resident also said the family’s 13-year-old son has set up his gaming console against the wall, “right where my bed is,” and shouts, sings “at the top of his lungs”, and even slams on tables while he plays.

“We informed the neighbours ever since we moved in that these walls are very thin and that we’d appreciate it if he’d quiet down after 11pm,” the resident continued, although their requests fell on deaf ears.

However, while the noise is infuriating enough, the resident said it is something else that has become “literally the last straw.” They claim the children of the house have been “destroying our side of the property,” “leaving trash everywhere, pulling out plants and decorations, and throwing their joint butts on our side.”

“I’m done with it and we can’t reason with them,” the continued.

Members of the public have praised the person’s persistence and shared they could use insulation to dampen the sound from next door.

One person wrote: “Get some expand polystyrene insulation 2′ thick. And put it on the common wall. You can cover it with bedsheet material. It should help deaden the sound.”

Another shared a more menacing solution, which involved a sound system pointed at the wall. The person shared: “It would be faster just to block the WiFi. And get a sound system against the wall.

“Train the parents to discipline the child. It will take a few weeks but they will learn. Be committed to the process. Everyone suffers equally.”

A third added: “I had a townhouse with noisy neighbours. I’d listen with ear buds to 10 hour videos of rainstorms on YouTube to relax and get some sleep. It was a good temporary solution before moving.”
