Angry neighbours are trying to have a resident evicted – but the ‘extremely reserved and silent’ culprit doesn’t know why they’re facing the wrath of the people across the hall

A resident has been left feeling uncomfortable in their own home as a collection of neighbours are trying to banish them from the area. The resident, who described themselves as “extremely reserved and silent”, believes they are hardly causing trouble for their new neighbours. But despite this, they have incurred the wrath anyway.

Apparently, new neighbours who moved in across the hall are trying to have the person evicted. So the fearful tenant took to Reddit to ask for advice. They shared the situation was leaving them feel “humiliated”, before requesting help from the anonymous forum.

They wrote: “My neighbours hate me for no reason and are trying to evict me. I’ve lived alone in the same house for 5 years, I’m an extremely reserved and silent person, and my old neighbours were the same so I never had any problems.

“But in January 2024, new neighbours moved into the front house (mine is a small building at the back, but with an independent entrance, rented from a real estate agency). And they just don’t like me.

“In the hallway of my house is their sewage tank, and since I’ve lived here, this box has been a problem.”

Despite explaining to his new neighbours that the sewage tank is the problem, they nonetheless complained about the resident.

The Redditor added: “They started making a FOUR of unfounded complaints, saying that my hallway was stinking, and that my house was full of weeds, and that there was cat poop and pee in the hallway (my cats only stay inside the house and only use the litter box).

“I am devastated, very sad, feeling humiliated and powerless. The children that the woman takes care of are always throwing garbage, paper and toys in my yard, every weekend they have parties and barbecues, they invite a lot of people, but I can’t have any leisure time.

“They have had my number since they moved, they could have talked to me, they could have complained about the sound directly to me.

“I was always kind to them, supportive and made it clear several times that if there was a problem they could talk to me directly. I felt very stupid for only realising the real intentions of the countless unfounded complaints too late.”

Members of the public have since weighed in on what the resident could do to deal with the neighbours from hell.

One person wrote: “You need to explain to your landlord that you were never ‘a problem’ until they moved in and decided to use harassment to bully you out of your own home.

“They’ll do this to the next tenant too and the next one if he gives in to their ridiculous, made up demands. Your landlord is effed if he starts giving in to them.”

Another added: “You need to put your foot down and make whoever you’re talking to understand this will cost the landlord money in the end.

“If you get evicted I can almost promise that house will remain empty or become a quickly revolving door of tenants trying to escape those neighbours.

“Explain how you’ve been a model tenant up until now and they are trying to paint you as the issue. Honestly I would look into tenants rights and speaking to a lawyer.”
