A woman has taken to social media after discovering her parents misspelled her sister’s name on her birth certificate – as she jokes being the middle child ‘really does suck’
It’s a common joke that the middle child receives less attention than their siblings – but this appears to ring true for one woman. When she saw her birth certificate, she couldn’t help but notice an ‘obvious’ error plastered across it.
According to the document, her name is spelt Linsay rather than Lindsay, which is how she has been spelling it for 32 years. Sharing a picture of the birth certificate on Reddit, her sister wrote: “My 32-year-old sister just realised that our parents have spelt her name wrong her entire life. Being the middle child really does suck.”
While most users couldn’t help but laugh at the unfortunate mistake, other shared their own stories about how their parents’ mistakes impacted their lives. One user commented: “You think that’s bad? I’m the second so basically junior, right? My middle name is spelled wrong. My dad spelled his own name wrong on my birth certificate.”
Another user added: “My brother only found out his birthday was the ‘wrong’ date after 21 years because he applied for a visa and it kept getting sent back saying there was an error. And he is the oldest. Needless to say, my sister and I ran to look at our birth certificates too.”

A third user said: “My aunt’s surname was misspelled on her birth certificate because the person who wrote it didn’t ask anyone to spell it (it has a Z instead of an S), and because it seems to have that changed, she just lives with the fact her surname is different than the rest of the families’.”
One more user added: “A friend of mine in high school was named Yacob. His mum misspelled it after giving birth to him, as he was supposed to be Jacob. Once he was a bit of an older kid his parents asked if he wanted to get it changed but he said no because he liked it! No one else has the name Yacob, but there are lots of Jacobs out there.”
