A woman has asked for advice after she confronted her roommate and her boyfriend for being too ‘loud,’ saying that she was screaming ‘like a monkey’ at four in the morning
A 22-year-old woman has taken to Reddit to vent her frustrations after her noisy roommate’s amorous activities pushed her to the brink. She shared that she moved in with a stranger “to cut costs,” and although they “get along fine,” she clarified that she “wouldn’t consider” her to be a friend.
She posted: “Now, onto the issue: Her boyfriend basically lives with us. I honestly don’t have a problem with that, he’s chill, keeps the fridge stocked, so no complaints”. However, she faced an awkward predicament that left her at her wits’ end, and when she complained, it caused a rift in the house.
The young woman revealed that her neighbour and her beau “do the deed at least once a day and they make no effort to be quiet”. She recounted how she’d be going about her business only to be disturbed by her roommate “screaming like she was giving birth.”

Despite previously adopting a laid-back approach and “let it slide,” she reached her breaking point when their nocturnal noises disrupted her sleep before an important exam.
She said: “Every couple of nights, they wake me up with their activities. Last night was the last straw, though. I had a big exam the next morning, and at 4am, they were going at it full volume. I got up and banged on the door like I was about to break in.
“She came out and asked what my problem was, and I told her straight up that the deed cannot be that good for her to be screaming like a monkey at 4am, and that she needs to shut the f**k up because I have an exam at 9am”.
She then went back to sleep and sat her exam in the morning – but when she returned home, her flatmate labelled her “disrespectful” for confronting the pair in such a manner, stating “she has a right to do whatever she wants in her own room.”
“I told her I don’t care if they do the deed or not, but I do care when it keeps me from sleeping, especially when I’m paying rent too. She stormed off all p****d, and now I’m sitting here overthinking whether I was out of line or if I’m just an a**hole,” she wrote.
In the comments, people reassured her that she wasn’t in the wrong. One person commented: “While yes, more communication should’ve been had (#1 issue for most people I’ve noticed), she should also have the respect and decency to at least be quieter.
“Like there’s literally sooo many ways this could’ve been prevented on their end, but they just didn’t care. I’d say setting up some ground rules for the house is your next best bet”.
Another added: “I think it would’ve been common sense not to cause disturbance to other people”.
Someone else fumed: “It’s gross and inconsiderate, let that be the last straw and keep standing up for yourself and don’t back down”.
One pointed out that, despite the frustration, certain comments were too harsh, remarking: “‘Screaming like a monkey’ and ‘shut the f**k up’ are disrespectful ways to provide feedback that the noise is unacceptable”, while another retorted: “Not at 4am on a school day it ain’t.”
