A woman has been left horrified after her sister revealed she wants to name her baby after a TV show character – and she’s not the only one who thinks the moniker is a bad idea

Parents often scour every corner for inspiration when hunting for the perfect name for their newborn – including popular culture. For example, following the Netflix series Stranger Things, the character’s name Eleven soared in popularity, becoming a favourite choice for new parents for both boys and girls.

However, not everyone appreciates unique names. This was certainly the case when one woman boldly risked her sister’s ire by criticising her chosen baby name as ‘stupid’.

She revealed how her sister had been inspired by the hit American neo-Western drama series Yellowstone, featuring Kevin Costner and Kelly Reilly. The reaction to her opinion did not go down too well.

Relaying the explosive exchange on social media, she penned: “I know I should have kept my mouth shut. It’s not my circus or my monkey. I just know the absolute s*** that kid will go through. So I told her to consider that she was naming a person who would eventually be an adult.”

  • “My sister is obsessed with the show Yellowstone. Her husband is willing to do anything to make her happy. They want to name their baby Cowboy”, reports the Mirror US.

“Our mum and dad at least had the decency to only give me Danger as a middle name. Yes, I’ve seen the f****** movie. She thinks I’m an a****** for calling her name choice stupid. I think I’m trying to save him from a lifetime of bullying until he legally changes his name.”

Reddit users were left in stitches over the tale of the protective aunt, with many assuring her she did nothing wrong. One user commented: “I knew a dude who was named Blade. Born three months after the first movie came out. Went by his middle name and has a strained relationship with his mum who refuses to call him anything else lol.”

Another chimed in with their own experience: “My mum has an unusual name. It’s not a terrible name, but she still made sure all three of her kids had normal names because she knew what it was like growing up with a weird name. Admittedly, she gave me, her only daughter, a traditionally male name, but when I was little she told me to tell anyone who asked why I have a boy name that it’s not a boy name because it’s my name.”

Wrapping up the discussion with a nod to a country music icon, another added: “But back to the subject at hand, in the words of country legend Willie Nelson, ‘Mamas, don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys’.”
