Neighbour rows are never fun, and they can leave you feeling awkward when you’re in the middle of one. However, two neighbours took their fence beef to another level

Arguments with your neighbours can be uncomfortable and awkward, even if you think you’re in the right. It’s always beneficial to have a cordial relationship with those you’re living next door to, ensuring that you can rely on them in your moment of need, or for a little chat over the fence about what’s going on in your local neighbourhood.

But sometimes, it’s precisely the fences that can cause a bunch of drama, with some neighbours point blank refusing to do anything to solve disputes, despite the fact that technically it may be their responsibility. But one neighbour shared that they thought those living next door had done them “dirty” when it came to the fence, so they got revenge in the pettiest way possible.

Over the top of the video, posted by @jamezilla007, it read: “Neighbour did us dirty, so we did his side of the fence ‘dirty’.”

While it wasn’t clear what had happened between the pair, it was clear what had happened with the fence.

Fence rails are the horizontal boards that support the vertical pickets or panels of a fence. The “nice” or finished side is usually the smooth side without rails, while the “rail side” shows the supporting structure.

The person who filmed the video had built the fence so that the rail side faced the neighbour’s garden, rather than their own.

Some people consider this rude or bad-mannered because it’s traditional to put the “nice” side facing out toward your neighbour as a gesture of respect.

However, the neighbour had done that first; they were just getting their own back with their fence response.

In the comments, some people said that if they were “paying” for the fence upgrade, then they were “getting the pretty side”.

Someone was confused with what the issue was, however, with one penning: “We’ve had to split costs of things with the neighbour before, like the fence, but that’s literally because it’s two halves of a duplex, so we share a roof, water lines, main drain pipes, etc.

“However, if you aren’t in the same building, then I don’t see a reason why a neighbour would want to split costs with you? If you want a fence, you pay for the fence”.

“Why not try to get along and be nice to each other?” one person queried, wondering why it wouldn’t be easier to just open lines of communication.

“Our neighbour did it while we weren’t there and then left bricks and all their stuff in our garden,” someone with neighbour drama sympathised.

“You sure showed that neighbour,” someone fumed.

Another gave advice their dad had given to them, sharing: “My dad always wants the rails on his side. He says otherwise it makes it really easy for anyone to climb over into your yard”.
