The great British summer is starting to wane, and it’s been one to remember in London with four heatwaves giving residents a blast of continental rays. As Britons prepare for a day off on the last bank holiday of the year, they can be assured that weather forecasts predict a day of pleasant, non-stop sunshine.
That’s right, the August Bank Holiday on Monday, August 25, is going to be pitch-perfect summer day with temperatures hovering the the mid 20s throughout the day. The day will get off to a warm start, with mercury rising to 21C by 10am, according to BBC Weather.
From then on, temperatures will inch upwards to 26C from around 1pm to 5pm, as sunshine lingers throughout the afternoon, with no cloud or rain to dampen the day. Temperatures will remain above 20C right into late evening, only dropping below after 11pm.
Met Office meteorologist Craig Snell said: “Today (Sunday) and tomorrow it will be largely dry across the UK apart from the odd spot of rain across Scotland today. There will be increasing amounts of sunshine and temperatures continuing to climb. On Monday it will be a very warm and sunny picture for most.”
But a downpour will arrive on Tuesday, August 26, and shows no sign of abating over the ensuing nine days. The first drops of rainfall are expected to lash down on London at 8am – making a dreary morning journey for commuters.
People who might be planning to head to beaches on Monday or Tuesday are being advised to head to ones with life guards as big waves will arrive.
From Tuesday onwards spells of rain will be moving across all parts of the country, and it will be wettest in the west, Mr Snell said.
“It will be heavy at times in the west, but at the moment we’re not expecting too many impacts, and it may for farmers or anyone who needs the rain be welcome,” he added.
On Wednesday, a band of rain will go across the whole country, and low pressure will remain until the weekend with further spells of rain.
